Hejssan alla!

Joulufiilikseen pääsemiseen varma keino on ympäröidä itsensä joulukoristeilla ja -valoilla, mutta paremmantuoksuinen tapa on esimerkiksi piparien leipominen. Osalle pakastealtaiden valmistaikinat ovat muodostuneet tutuiksi ystäviksi piparitaikinahimon iskiessä, eikä jotkut ole välttämättä koskaan itse väkertänyt taikinaa alusta loppuun. Kahdennessatoista luukussa haluamme tuoda eteenne toimivaksi todistetun Kinuskikissan piparkakkutaikinaohjeen! Tässä jokaiselle tekemistä, jos ei nyt keskelle viikkoa, niin vaikka sitten viikonlopulle!

Ainekset 1350g:n taikinaan:

200g huoneenlämpöistä voita/margariinia

2 1/2 dl sokeria

1 1/2 dl siirappia

2 munaa

1 l vehnäjauhoja

4 tl leivinjauhetta tai 2 tl ruokasoodaa

1 rkl kardemummaa

2 tl kanelia

2 tl jauheettua inkivääriä (tai inkiväärijauhetta, helpompaa *vinks*)

2 tl neilikkajauhetta

2 tl pomeranssijauhetta

200 astetta/ 5 min

Taikinan tekeminen:

1. Yhdistä sokeri ja huoneenlämpöinen rasva
2. Kuumenna siirappi kiehuvaksi ja lisää sokerin ja rasvan joukkoon. Sekoita tasaiseksi
3. Lisää seokseen munat
4. Sekoita kuivat aineet keskenään
5. Lisää jauhoseos pienissä erissä ensin sekoittaen puulastalla ja lopuksi kädellä
6. Muotoile taikinasta litteä möykky ja kääri elmukelmuun. Anna kovettua jääkaapissa seuraavaan päivään

Seuraavana päivänä voit siis tyhjentää keittiön tasosi ja kaivaa esiin essusi, piparimuottisi, kaulimesi sekä jauhopurkkisi, ja tehdä taikinastasi suussa sulavia piparkakkuja! Alhaalla vielä ideoita piparien mahdolliseen koristeluun. Iloisia leipomisia rakkaat ressut <3

A sure way to get yourself into a Chirstmas mood is to surround yourself with Christmas lights and decorations, but another certain way is to bake cookies. For you, friends of gingerbread cookies, the prepeared-in-advance dough packets in supermarket freezers must be familiar, but we fear that you may have never prepared cookie cough by yourself. In the 12th hatch of our Christmas calendar we want to present to you the Kinuskikissa (fudge cat?) recipe for gingerbread cookies! This is a low-risk high-yield and fun activity for everyone; if not for this week then at least for the weekend.

Ingredients for 1350g of dough:

200g room temperature butter/margarine

2 1/2 dl sugar

1 1/2 dl syrup

2 eggs

1 l flour

4 teaspoons of baking powder or 2 teaspoons of baking soda

1 table spoon of cardamom

2 tea spoons of cinnamon

2 tea spoons of ground ginger (or ginger powder, easier *hint hint*)

2 teaspoons of clove powder

2 teaspoons of bitter orange powder

200 degrees/ 5 min

Making the dough:

1. Mix the sugar and the grease at room temperature.
2. Heat the syrup up to its boiling point, add it to the sugar&grease mix. Mix until smooth and settled.
3. Add the eggs.
4. Mix all the dry ingredients with each other
5. Add the powder mixture in small portions first while mixing with a wooden spatula and eventually with your hands.
6. Make a flat mound out of the dough and wrap it in plastic film. Let the dough harden up in the freezer for a day or so.

On the following day you can clean up your kitchen in order to have a workspace, bring out your apron, cookie moulds, rolling pin and flour bags, and get to making mouthwatering gingerbread cookies out of your dough. Kun joulupukki auton katolle kiipesi

Olen elättänyt itseni valehtelemalla lapsille jo ennen kuin ryhdyin opettajaksi - tein nimittäin opiskeluaikana joulupukkikeikkoja. Kiireisimpinä jouluina keikkoja saattoi olla päivän aikana parikymmentä ja vuosien varrella sattui ja tapahtui kaikenlaista. Yksi tapaus on jäänyt erityisesti mieleeni.

Elettiin vuoden 1992 jouluaattoa kauniissa Espoossa. Olin buukannut päivän täyteen ja käynyt edellisenä iltana reitin läpi, jotta en myöhästelisi osoitteiden etsimisen takia. Oli alkuilta, noin kymmenen keikkaa takana ja saman verran vielä edessä. Seuraava osoite olisi vanha omakotitalo Hannusrannassa Kaitaalla. Olin liikkeellä isäni vanhalla Toyota Camrylla.

Piha oli sillä tavalla suojainen, että siihen saattoi pukki autolla ilmestyä ilman että ikkunasta kyyläävät vekarat sitä näkisivät. Katsoin pelkääjän paikalla pitämästäni keikkalistasta vielä kerran tämän kohteen tiedot: minkä ikäisiä ja -nimiä lapsia täällä olikaan ja oliko perheellä jotain erikoistoiveita? Painoin nimet mieleeni, nousin autosta ja laitoin oven kiinni.

Henki meinasi salpautua kun tajusin, että auton avaimen jäivät sisälle ja ovi meni lukkoon. Joulupukki ilman kulkuneuvoa keskellä aattoiltaa viettävää omakotialuetta, runsaasti keikkoja vielä edessä eikä kännyköitä tuohon aikaan vielä ollut. Voiko pukki itselleen hankalampaa tilannetta järjestää? Tämän talon keikan pystyisin vielä hoitamaan, mutta entä loppuilta? Millä jatkaisin matkaa, miten saisin sanan pukkia odottaviin perheisiin? Satoja vuosia vanhassa pukin päässäni jyskytti ja suuta kuivasi kun kävelin omakotitalon ovea kolkuttelemaan.

Sillä keikalla lienen ollut tavallistakin enemmän pihalla. Janipetterit ja minnaliisat saivat kyllä pakettinsa, mutta mielessäni pyöri vain tukalasta tilanteestani selviytyminen. Kun lahjat oli jaettu, lähti isäntä tavan mukaan “saattamaan pukkia ovelle”. Isännän tarjotessa seteliä kiitokseksi, tokaisin: “Unohda rahat, lainaa autoasi”. Selitin hämmästyneelle isännälle tilanteeni. Hieman pitkin hampain hän kaivoi taskustaan Peugeotinsa avaimet.

Huokaisin helpotuksesta. Mutta vielä oli yksi pulma ratkaistavana - loppuillan vierailukohteet olivat yhä siinä lapussa, joka kökötti Toyotan etupenkillä. Paperi oli sillä tavalla kääntyneenä, ettei sitä kyennyt sivuikkunasta lukemaan. Ainoaksi vaihtoehdoksi jäi Camryn katolle kiipeäminen. Toivon, ettei kukaan lapsi nähnyt ja saanut verkkokalvoilleen sitä traumaattista näkyä, kun pukki ähelsi mahallaan taskulampun kanssa auton katolla.

Sain kuitenkin poimittua listasta tarvittavat osoitteet ja kellonajat ja matka saattoi jatkua. Peugeot inahti käyntiin. Kirosin pukkimaisen hillitysti huomatessani bensamittarin olevan punaisella. En tiennyt jäljellä olevan löpön määrää, joten ei kun ensimmäisenä tankkaamaan. Oma jännityksensä on pukkiasussa tankkaamisessakin, suosittelen kokeilemaan.

Ilta sujui lopulta lasten näkökulmasta kuten pitikin. Olin suunnilleen ajoissa joka paikassa ja vältyin uusilta kommelluksilta. Viimeisen keikan jälkeen ajelin palauttamaan Peugeotia. Isäntä tuli vieraansa kanssa minua pihalle vastaan. Kiitin auton lainasta. Pähkäilimme siinä, miten saisin Toyotan oven auki ja huristeltua kotiin omaa aattoani viettämään. Tuohon aikaan autojen lukot olivat vielä väljiä ja ne aukenivat helpommin kuin nykyään. Isäntä kokeili huvikseen Peugeotinsa avaimia Toyotan lukkoon, mutta ei se auennut. Isännän vieraskin kokeili omia auton avaimiaan - ja mitä ihmettä - Toyotan ovi avautui! Muistan edelleen, että tämä ihmekapistus oli Ladan virtalukon vara-avain. Istahdin helpottuneena Camryyn ja ajelin pois kohti uusia seikkailuja.

When Father Christmas climbed on top of a car

I have been making money out of lying to kids even before I became a teacher: In fact, I used to do gigs as a santa during the holiday season. Sometimes there might have been over 20 gigs a day, and there has been a lot of untold stories throughout the years. Out of all these experiences, one stands taller than the others.

It was the Xmas Eve of  1992 in the always-so-beautiful Espoo. I had filled the whole day with gigs, and drove through the path I was supposed to take beforehand in order to avoid being late. The evening was running towards, and I had done around ten gigs with ten more to go. The next stop was an old house at Hannusranta in Kaitaa, and I was driving around with my dads old Toyota Camry.

The yard was such that a santa could definitely sneak in without the toddlers being able to observe his presence. I did the last check on address, ages and names of the kids, and if the family had any special wishes. I memorized the names, got out of the car and shut the door.

I felt my blood freeze as I realized I had left the car keys inside and locked the door. A santa without a car to drive with in the middle of a neighbourhood on a Chrtismas Eve, a lot of gigs to go and no cell phone (they didnt exist yet, kids). Can a santa be more doomed? I could still handle this gig, but the rest would be doomed. How could I let the rest of the families know? Scratching my hundreds of years old head I started to walk towards the door of this very house.

During that gig I was even more goofed as usually. The toddlers did get their presents, but the only thing in my mind was the doom I was about to face. As the presents were handed out, the dad was politely walked the santa to the door. As he was about to give me my pay, I told him to forget about it and borrow me his car. I told him my unfortunate story, and he handed me the keys with a little salty look on his face.

I felt so revealed. But there was still one problem unsolved: The addresses of the rest of the gigs were written on a paper on the front seat of the Toyota. The note was placed such that you could not read it from the side of the car. The only option left was to climb on the car. I hope not a single child saw this nor got traumatized by the rather comic situation of a burglar santa lying on top of a car with a flashlight.

Nevertheless, I managed to get all the information needed, hence being able to continue my journey. The Peugeot the dad borrowed me cried and sprung to life. I sweared as well as a santa could as I realized the gas meter was already beeping red. I could not tell the amount of gas left, so I had to rally off to stock up. There's this specific kind of exitement in tanking up as santa, I strongly recommend you to try.

The rest of the night proceeded as well as it could from the kids' point of view. I was approximately on time in every place and managed to avoid any further trouble. After the last gig I drove back to return the Peugeot. The dad came out to the yard with a quest of his, and I thanked him for borrowing his car. Then we started to wonder how on Earth could we get the door of my beloved Toyota open. During those times the doors of cars were more loose than nowadays, and one could manage to open them with a key of a different car. The householder decided to try his Peugeot's keys, but they didn't work. The quest of his decided to try his keys, and it worked! I still remember that this magical object was the key of a Lada. I sat down in my Camry, and felt as relieved as one could be. I drove away to celebrate Christmas and continue my adventurous night.

Joulukalenterimme 10. luukusta te löydätte motivaation! Ette oikeasti:(  Löydätte vain artikkelin motivaatiosta, jonka kirjoittaa ihminen, jolla ei ole minkäänlaista käsitystä motivaatiosta.

Motivaatio - niin tuttu sana jokaiselle opiskelijalle. Aina vähän välii kuulee ympäri lukiomme rakennusta "oispa moti" tyylisiä lausahduksia, mikä samanaikaisesti huvittaa että pistää miettimään. 

Mitä motivaatio ylipäätään on? Tieteellisesti selitettynä motivaatio on käyttövoima, joka on kaikkien eliöiden toiminnan syytä. Ei tieteellisesti selitettynä motivaatio on se asia, mikä saa sinut tekemään asioita, joista et välttämättä saakkaan heti miellytystä. Esimerkiksi meillä on motivaatio herätä aikaisin vastoin suurta väsymystä, jotta me ehdittäis aamutunnille nukkumaan.

Motivaation puute on tehottomuuden suurin tekijä. Jos ei ole tarpeeksi motivaatiota tehdä jotakin, niin joko tekeminen jää kokonaan pois tai ainakaan se ei ole niin tehokasta kuin voisi olla. Kuvitelkaapa hetkeksi kuinka nopeasti voisi käydä kaikki koulun opinnot läpi, jos olisi yhtä innoissaan opiskelusta kuin lempiharrastuksen parissa ajanvietosta.

Mutta pääasiassa motivaatio lähtee meistä itsestämme. Meidän on löydettävä ne syyt, joiden avulla jaksamme painaa läpi rankemmistakin ajoista (lue koeviikoista). Haluatko aikuisena hyvätuloiseen ammattiin? Haluatko sisäistää kvanttifysiikan mekanismit syvälle sieluusi? Onko 12 laudaturin kirjoittaminen elämäntehtäväsi? Näitä kysymyksiä tai vastauksia niihin ei kukaan muu pysty löytämään kuin sinä itse. Eikä niiden pohtiminen hyödytä ketään muuta kuin sinua itseäsi. Haasteena tälle päivälle jätäme roikkumaan kysymykset: Mikä sinua motivoi? Mitä haluat elämässäsi saavuttaa, ja mitä olet valmis näiden asioiden eteen tekemään?

From the 10th door of our calendar you'll find the long lost MOTIVATION! (Not really [a special ''sorry'' to all the IBs; unfortunately we'll never find it]) What you'll find is an article about motivation, written by someone who does not have a single clue of what motivation really is.

Motivation – Such a familiar term for every student. Every now and then you'll hear cries like ''I wish I had motivation'' around school. At the same time, the occurrence of such phrases make you giggle and wonder at the same time.

After all, what is motivation? Scientifically explained motivation is the prime power that keeps every living creature going. Non-scientifically explained motivation is the thing that makes you do things which you would initally be not-so-interested in doing. For example, we have this magical motivation which makes us to get out of bed and hurry to the first morning class to continue our napping.

The lack of motivation is the biggest negative factor in terms of efficiency. If you do not have enough motivation to do something, you'll just let it be or do it partially. Imagine how fast and efficiently one could graduate if they were as passionate about everything in school as they are of their favourite hobby!

Fundamentally, motivation is intrinsic. We have to find out the factors which fuel us to overcome even the most difficult phenomena one might face (read phenomena as: exam week). Do you want to earn a lot of that cold cash as an adult? Do you want to engrave everything about quantum physics deep into your soul? Is the 45 points in finals the meaning of your life? The answers to these questions can only be found by you, and only you. The pondering of these questions are not going to benefit anyone else than youself. As a challenge, we'll leave you hanging with a couple of questions (Xmas Calendar homework; Think about THAT!): What motivates you? What do you want to accomplish in life, and what are you ready to do and sacrifice in order to achieve these things?

Hei rakkaat Ressut! Onko teillä ikinä käynyt niin, että olette unohtaneet avata teidän herkullisesta suklaakalenteristanne muutaman luukun, minkä takia olette joutuneet ottamaan jonain aamuna isomman annoksen suklaista onnellisuutta?:)

Blogin 9. luukusta löytyy Ressun lukion opinto-ohjaaja Tuija Espo. Tuija on työskennellyt Resssussa jo pitkään auttaen opiskelijoita monissa asioissa. Kyselimme Tuijalta, miten hän viettää joulua ja minkä sortin jouluihminen hän on ylipäätään on.

Tuija kertoi, että joulussa hän eniten pitää joululomasta. Hän nauttii siitä, että joulu on kiireetöntä aikaa, jolloin voi rauhassa nukkua univelkoja pois. Tuija myös ulkoilee joululomalla paljon koirien kanssa ja kuvaa.

Joululahjat Tuija hankkii hyvissä ajoin, jotta varmasti kukaan ei jäisi vahingossakaan paitsi. Lahjat hän suunnittelee huolellisesti ja varmistaen, että jokainen saisi juuri sellaisen lahjan, joka toisi mahdollisimman leveän hymyn kasvoille. Tuija panostaa myöskin paketointiin. Estetiikka on todella tärkeässä roolissa.

Joulun Tuija viettää pienessä porukassa sukulaisten kesken. Vuosien varrella jouluperinteitä ei ole vielä syntynyt, mutta mistä tietää. että milloin ja mistä perinne saa alkunsa. 

Tuija toivottaa kaikille Ressuille hyvää joulua ja onnellista uutta vuotta! Hän kehottaa meitä ahkeria(XD) opiskelijoita lepäämään ja pitämään itsestämme hyvää huolta.

Hello dear Ressus! Have you ever been in the awkward situation of having forgotten to open a few hatches of your advent calendar, and then having to consume a large amount of chocolaty wonder one monring? If the answer is yes, then you can relate that emotion to the double post of today.

In the 9th hatch of the calendar we find our beloved guidance counselor: Tuija Espo. Tuija has been helping students at Ressu to figure out their schedules and future for a long time. We asked Tuija about her way of passing Christmas, and tried to find out what kind of Christmas person she is overall.

Tuija told us that what she likes the most in Christmas is the vacation. She enjoys the fact that Christmas is a hurry-free time, when one can recuperate from lack of sleep (students ahem) as well as stress. Tuija also likes doing a lot of outings with her dogs as well as photography.

Tuija prepares all her Christmas gifts well in advance to make sure that no one is left without one; even by accident. She plans them carefully, and ensures that everyone gets exactly the kind of gift that will bring the 

largest possible smile on the face of the recipient. She spends a lot time on packaging, because she believes that the aesthetics of the packaging play an important role.

Usually Tuija enjoys Christmas in a small group, among relatives. She hasn't developed any Christmas traditions as of yet, but one never knows how and when a tradition will be started!

Our beloved counsellor wishes all Ressus a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! She encourages us, the hard-working students (XD), to rest and to take good care of ourselves.

Joulukalenterin 7. luukku

Iltaa kaikki ressut! Tänään luukussa on runomuotoisia terveisiä hallituksemme ruokalavastaavilta, pidetään jatkossakin ruokailuajoista kiinni :) 

Heipä hei ruokalavastaavat tässä, ja ei, emme ole mihinkään ruokalasta lähtemässä.
Ressun ruokala tunnetusti pieni on, ja kun joku muu kuin ressu näkee sen, on hän sanaton.
Vaikka välillä loppuu tila, ja tuntuu että tämä on jokin pila, pyrkikäämme silti kaikki yhteiselohon.
Omia ruokalavuoroja seuratkaa ja pliis ajoissa poistukaa, muuten me ruokalavastaavat tullaan tietä saalistaa.
Toivottavasti kaikki muistavat nämä sanat, näin siis toivokaamme, jotta koulun tarjoamista ruuista ja palveluista kaikki nauttia saamme

Joulukalenterin 6.luukku

Hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää!

Itsenäinen Suomi täyttää tänä vuonna 99 vuotta. Näihin vuosiin on mahtunut paljon kansakuntamme heikkoja sekä loistokkaita hetkiä, eikä itsenäisyyttämme tulisi arvostaa vain sen suoman vapaapäivän takia. Mutta mitä 99 vuotta sitten tapahtui, mitkä tapahtumat saivat käyntiin tämän ajatuksen omasta itsenäisestä Suomestamme?

Suomalaisen kansallistunteen saivat 1830- sekä 1840-luvuilla syttymään kansallisromantikkomme Elias Lönnrot, J. L. Runeberg sekä J. V. Snellman. Suomalaisille alkoi muodostua kuva ihannekansalaisestaan, ja suomen kielen asema alkoi parantua. Kun Venäjä aloitti sortotoimensa Suomea kohtaan 1900-luvun taiteessa, syntyi erilaisia aktivistiliikkeitä, joiden tehtävänä oli irrottaa Suomi täydellisesti Venäjästä. Kuten Adolf Arwidsson aikoinaan sanoi: "Ruotsalaisia emme enää ole, venäläisiksi emme tahdo tulla, olkaamme siis suomalaisia"

Ensimmäisen maailmansota (1914-1918) sai Venäjällä kyteneet sisäiset ongelmat puhkeamaan kukkaansa. Kun sodassa vielä kärsittiin merkittäviä tappioita Saksalle, tehtiin maassa vallankumous ja keisarivalta kaadettiin. Suomessa päätettiin käytää tätä Venäjän sekasortoista aikaa hyväkseen, ja niimpä keväällä 1917 alettiin käsitellä mahdollisuutta itsenäistymisestä. Eduskunta hyväksyi itsenäisyysjulistuksen 6.12.1917, ja Suomi itsenäistyi.

Se siitä historiasta, palatkaamme takaisin tähän aikaan. Me ressut juhlistimme itsenäisyyspäivää 2.12 juhlavassa Vanhassa kirkossa. Kuulimme huikeita musiikkiesityksiä sekä koskettavia puheita, mitkä toivat niin juhlan tuntua kuin nostattivat koulumme yhteishenkeä!

Happy Independence Day!

The independent Finland turned 99 this year. There has been a lot of struggle and joy during this time period, and we should not take our independence for granted (This meaning the celebration of one extra holiday). But what exactly happened 99 years ago, and what made us think of ourselves as an independent nation?

The spark of nationalism was born in the 1830’s and 1840’s by our beloved authors and national heroes, Elias Lönnrot, J. L. Runeberg and J. V. Snellman. The image of an ideal Finn and the state of Finnish as a language started to develop. As Russia started the oppression of Finland in the twist of 19th and 20th century, many activist movements were created in order to exclude Russia completely. As Adolf Arwidsson once said: ”We are not Swedes anymore, and we do not wish to become Russians; thus let us be Finns!”

The First World War (1914-1918) made the internal conflicts of Russia to blossom. As Germany wiped the floor with the Russians, a revolution sparked and the emperor was overthrown. Finns wanted to benefit from the chaotic state of our beloved neighbour, so in the spring of 1917 the idea of becoming independent was even more than possible. In the following December, the parliament accepted the declaration of independence. Hence, Finland became independent on 6.12.1917.

And that’s enough history for today! Let us get back to present day. We Ressus celebrated our independence on 2.12. in the Old Church. The festivities consisted of fantastic music performances, touching speeches which too encouraged our school spirit!
